Warning: read this before using a wall phone jack
If your house still has phone company service, disconnect it first. Unplug the phone company wire at the network interface box. That is the gray box, about 6 by 9 inches, on an outside wall near your power meter. A live phone line will damage Cell2Jack.
Not sure what is behind your wall jacks? Skip them. Connect your home phone straight to Cell2Jack instead. That path is always safe.
Start here
Set up your Cell2Jack and pair your phone.
- Read this first: using a wall phone jack Before you plug Cell2Jack into a wall jack, disconnect the old phone company line or you will damage the device.
- The setup diagram: what plugs in where A simple picture of the three connections, plus a link to the full step-by-step setup.
- Pair your cell phone the first time Pick up the home phone, press #*#, then find Cell2Jack in your cell phone Bluetooth list. Passkey is 0000 if asked.
- Pair Cell2Jack to a different cell phone Press #*# on the home phone to start pairing again, then pick Cell2Jack on the new phone.
- The 5V power adapter and the 5V out port Cell2Jack needs a 5V USB power adapter. Use the one that came with your cell phone, and it can charge your phone too.
- Factory reset Enter 82#83# on the home phone to reset Cell2Jack, then reboot it and pair your phone again.
Everyday use
Make calls, use voice, and get the most from it.
- Make and answer calls Use your home phone the way you always have. Pick up and dial to call, pick up to answer.
- Use Siri or Google Assistant from your home phone Press the star key, wait for the tone, and speak. Ask for the weather, your texts, or a reminder.
- Control smart home devices from your home phone If your smart devices work with Siri or Google, you can control them by voice from any home phone.
- Use a home answering machine Set your answering machine to pick up one ring sooner than your cell voicemail so it answers first.
- Turn on Caller ID Press 51# on your home phone to show who is calling. It may add a short delay to the ring.
- Answer on your cell phone instead of the home phone Call audio goes to your home phone by default. Pick the speaker or your cell phone on the call screen to change it.
Something is wrong
Fix a call, the sound, the dial tone, or the ring.
- No dial tone Unplug the charging cable first, then check what you hear and the color of the red light.
- Calls come in but I cannot dial out Dial all 10 digits or press # to send the call. If the dial tone stays on, adjust the off hook power.
- The call has an echo Turn off Cell2Jack echo cancellation with 80#, then reboot. If it stays, lower your cell phone Bluetooth mic volume.
- Bad, noisy, or missing audio Static usually comes from the power adapter. Use the one from your cell phone, and try lowering the off hook power with 71#.
- Calls drop after they connect Raise the hook detect time with 33# on your home phone keypad.
- The home phone will not ring Turn the ringer up on the phone, then raise ring strength, hook detection, and off hook voltage. Old phones may need a small ringer amplifier.
- Keypad tones for banks and voicemail (DTMF) Turn on DTMF tone commands with 35# so your home phone keypad works with phone menus.
- My cell phone cannot find Cell2Jack Press #*# on the home phone first, then search for Bluetooth devices on your cell phone.
- It worked yesterday but not today Check the lights. Blue means power. Red means your cell phone is connected. Most drops are Bluetooth reconnecting.
- Check the lights and run a test call Confirm the blue light for power and the red light for pairing, then place a test call to a friend.
Will it work with my phone
What Cell2Jack works with, and what it does not.
- Does it work with a rotary phone? Yes. Rotary phones pair on their own after power up. A very old ringer may need a small external ringer.
- Does it work with a flip phone? Basic calling works, but voice dialing and keypad dialing from the home phone do not. A cheap smartphone gives you everything.
- Does it work with a fax machine? No. The mobile voice channel is not clean enough for fax or data.
- Does it work with VoIP apps like Google Voice or Skype? The sound works, but some features may not. VoIP apps are not officially supported.
- Free phone calls at home with Google Voice You can use Google Voice for free calling through Cell2Jack with an Android helper app, but Google changes it often, so it may break.
- Use phones in more than one room The easy way is a cordless phone set. You can also use more than one Cell2Jack, or wire it into your wall jacks.
- Share Cell2Jack with two cell phones Yes, up to two cell phones can be paired. The home phone rings for a call to either one.
