Warning: read this before using a wall phone jack

If your house still has phone company service, disconnect it first. Unplug the phone company's wire at the network interface box: the gray box, about 6 by 9 inches, on an outside wall near your power meter. A live phone line will damage Cell2Jack.

Not sure what is behind your wall jacks? Skip them. Connect your home phone straight to Cell2Jack instead. That path is always safe.

Step 1: connect three things

  1. Home phone into the Phone port. Straight into Cell2Jack, not through a wall jack.
  2. Power adapter into the 5V in port. Use the short USB cable that comes in the box, not another cable.
  3. Optional: your cell phone's charging cable into the 5V out port. It charges your cell phone while it sits nearby.

The home phone connects straight to Cell2Jack. The wall jack comes later, after pairing works.

Step 2: pair your cell phone

  1. Pick up the home phone. You will hear "phone is not connected."
  2. Press #*# on the phone keypad. On some units it is 0000. The red light starts flashing and you hear "pairing." Version 4 and newer units start pairing on their own after power up.
  3. On your cell phone, turn on Bluetooth and search for new devices. It can take a few minutes to find Cell2Jack.
  4. Select Cell2Jack when it appears. If it fails the first time, try again.
  5. If asked for a passkey, enter 0000, four zeros. Many phones never ask.
  6. The red light stops flashing and stays on. Pick up the home phone. A dial tone means you are done.

Step 3, optional: every room in the house

Once one phone works, Cell2Jack can feed your house wiring so every wall jack carries it. Three parts, in this order:

  1. Confirm calls work with one phone connected directly.
  2. Disconnect the phone company's wire at the network interface box. This is the warning at the top of this page. Skipping it damages the device.
  3. Plug Cell2Jack into any unused wall jack. Every phone on the house wiring now rings together.
